A Content Type in GATE Village is an information object that has an intended audience (by role) and a set of allowed pieces of information (or content-types).

There are two basic categories of content-types:

1. a basic web page;
2. a navigable collection of web pages (next, previous, up, down)

Content types play a big role in GATE Village, they tell the author who the audience is, and (thus) what sorts of things are appropriate to say and put in that content. As of this writing (2009-06-05) GATE Village has 25 distinct content types, though most users do not "see' that many.
